Why do the girls on Teen Mom have nicer cars than I’ll ever be able to afford?

Why isn’t there an MTV show following around alternative students (transfers, minorities, low income, veterans) at public universities documenting their quest for a bachelor’s degree, maintaining their GPAs, navigating collegiate social environments, debating their options for the future, while eating top ramen and hard boiled eggs all the time?

I’d go on tv with my stress snacking, acne, procrastination, homesickness, partying (does drinking two bottles of wine at 5 pm on a thursday night count?), schlepping around campus, snoozing in lecture, writing papers at the last minute….
